It blows my mind that my 2-year-old future nephew already knows the word “iPod.” Not so much that he knows it, but that it has been a natural part of his upbringing and vocabulary since the day he was born. So…nothing groundbreaking, but I just needed to put that into perspective/feel old for a moment.

A little reflection.
It’s crazy to me that this time last year, I was all prepared to make the big move up to DC. I didn’t have a job lined up per se, but I had a museum gig that would have been an incredible experience. (Figuring out how to pay for living expenses was a whole other venture that I have no idea how I would have sorted out, but I’m sure something would have worked.) Fast forward to...

The pigeons in Central Park have taken the seat on the bench next to me. His hot chocolate is cold chocolate now. My phone buzzes and sends the pigeons scattering…. Yeah, this is awesome.

It kills me when I’m playing Words With Friends with a random person and the only reason he/she is winning is because he/she is getting better letters.  That is all.

Can we talk about how cute these earrings are? And they are only $5! It may just be my affinity for Christmas attire and all things purple, but I might have a dirty secret to share: I kind of like tacky Christmas sweaters and other obnoxious holiday clothes. (I think they’re festive and fun.) Now, onto the next Etsy find…

I know, right?! I am totally all about finding gifts under $10 that don’t look like they’re under $10.  And you’re welcome! I’m digging around for today’s suggestion…more cheap (but not cheaply made) recommendations are coming soon.

Gift ideas - pocket watch necklace
Since we’re nearing Christmas, I’ve decided I’m going to post one cool thing I found on Etsy up until the 25th. I’m in need of gift inspiration all the time, and oddly enough, I always forget Etsy even though I love to peruse the site when I’m supposed to be doing anything else but shopping. This also is financially a tighter season for me. With that in mind,...

Motivation (with cookies).
Sometimes it takes things like a minor car accident, a whopper of a ticket, and a Christmas cookie to get me motivated again. Not to mention a good cry after a call from my mom. I don’t care if I’m supposed to be a grown-up sometimes. For now, let’s just focus on the Christmas cookies - and maybe some eggnog later.

– Maia Szalavitz for TIME, Perspective: Kicking Drugs After Columbia Bust I really enjoyed that this piece is told in first-person. It’s brave of TIME to share Ms. Szalavitz’s story, and it’s even braver of her to tell it.

Food Blogger Envy
How can I become a full-time food blogger without a) being a really great, inventive cook or b) taking beautiful pictures of everything I eat? (Not to mention avoiding the piling on 20 lbs. of dining-out goodness, but I’d rather not give myself a “C” option for that.) Sometimes, Tastespotting is too cruel for words.

– From David Segal’s terrific New York Times story on Vitaly Borker, owner of DecorMyEyes, an online store that sells eyewear.
